The Winchester Mystery House is a tourist attraction in San Jose that bills itself as an authentic haunted house. The former home of the late Sarah Winchester (who allegedly kept building so that the sounds of construction would distract restless ghosts killed by Winchester rifles) is filled with architectural oddities (doors that do not open, stairs that lead nowhere). The location presents historical tours during the day, spooky candlelight tours at night, and sometimes a haunted house event during October.
