The Mummy 25th anniversary re-release

This is the weekend of anniversary re-releases. Not only is Alien (1979) in theatres; so is The Mummy. This is the film that turned Universal Pictures’ horror icon into an action movie franchise more akin to Raiders of the Lost Ark than the 1932 film starring Boris Karloff as Im-Ho-Tep. It was a huge success, leading to a couple sequels and Van Helsing. Even the later, aborted Universal Dark Universe sought to capture the same action-movie vibe.
