Trailer: Mad God

In anticipation of its arrival on Shudder, Phil Tippett’s stop-motion film Mad God is screening for one week Laemmle Monica Film Center in Santa Monica. The project began decades ago, then was abandoned when Tippett’s career as a Hollywood special effects artist (Jurassic Park, Robocop, etc). Eventually, animators at Tippett’s studio discovered the project and offered to help complete it, working for free on weekends under Tippett’s direction.

Originally released as three short films in 2014, 2015, and 2018, ranging in length from eleven to eighteen minutes, Mad God has now been turned into a feature by adding over a half-hour of additional footage. The result is described as an “apocalyptic stop-motion descent into the bowels of the unconscious.” The cast includes Niketa Roman, Satish Ratakonda, and Alex Cox (director of Repo Man).

After its debut on Shudder, Mad God will be screened at the Alamo Drafthouse in downtown Los Angeles on July 3 at 7:45pm.
