The seasonal offering at Pirates Dinner Adventure in Buena Park, Vampirates offers guests a four-course meal along two-hours of songs, swordplay, and stunts. Arriving early is a good idea, so you can enjoy the decorated surroundings and swill grog (actually themed drinks). A half-hour before the main event, there is a pre-show on a small stage next to the bar, filling viewers in on the back story (our heroine’s fiance has recently been recruited to Captain Black’s evil undead crew).

The play itself takes place in a huge auditorium, with a pirate ship nestled in an artificial lake. Production values are spectacular, with lighting, roiling fog, and occasionally explosive effects. The performers handle the demands of their roles amazingly well – everyone seems able to sing, fight, swing from the rafters, and just about anything else one can imagine.
